Al-Nassr narrowly clinched a 1-0 victory in extra time against Al-Ettifaq during the King's Cup Round of 16 at Al-Awwal Park Stadium on Tuesday. The intense match witnessed both teams having players sent off. Despite the contentious officiating, Al-Nassr, six-time champions, advanced to the quarter-finals. They are set to face Al-Shabab in the next round, marking an all-Riyadh clash. Notably, this victory extends their unbeaten streak to 15 matches across various competitions (with 14 wins and 1 draw) since their initial back-to-back league defeats to Al-Ettifaq and Al-Taawon in August.
Having amassed 25 points from 11 matches, Al-Nassr currently holds the second position in the Pro League standings, narrowing the gap on the league leaders, Al-Hilal, who remain undefeated this season. As they head into Matchweek 12, Luis Castro’s team aims for a third consecutive win, benefiting from the home advantage of Al-Awwal Park.
Al-Khaleej also advanced to the King's Cup Round of 16 by prevailing over Damac on penalties at Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium after Nicolae Stanciu equalized Jung Woo-young’s 27th-minute opener.
However, the focus now shifts to their Pro League campaign, where Pedro Emanuel's side has struggled. They've encountered difficulties, being winless in their last four league games and securing just two victories in 11 matches this season. Presently positioned 13th in the standings with only 10 points, Al-Khaleej is three points clear of the relegation zone.
