Inter Miami heads to the west coast to take on LA Galaxy, aiming to extend their perfect start to the 2024 MLS campaign with another victory.
In their opening match of the season, Inter Miami showcased their title credentials with a convincing 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake. Despite some defensive lapses, they managed to keep a clean sheet and impressively kicked off the season at Chase Stadium. This victory marked a strong rebound from their disappointing pre-season tour, where they suffered defeats against Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, and Vissel Kobe.
On the other hand, LA Galaxy will kick off their regular season against Inter Miami after a sluggish start to the 2023 campaign. They struggled initially, winning only one of their first ten games and missing out on the playoffs for the fifth time in seven seasons. Their form at the end of the season didn't improve either, with a winless streak in their last six MLS games.
In terms of team news, LA Galaxy have dealt with injuries, with Martin Caceres and Gaston Brugman returning from long-term spells on the sidelines. However, they'll be missing the services of Jalen Neal due to an abdominal injury. Additionally, newly acquired Joseph Paintsil is unlikely to feature, having recently joined the team and needing time to integrate.
Coach Greg Vanney is expected to rely on Dejan Joveljic and Diego Fagundez in the attack, while club record-signing Gabriel Pec is still not ready to make his debut, as he continues to adapt to the team.
With Inter Miami brimming with confidence after their opening win and LA Galaxy dealing with injury concerns and new acquisitions settling in, the visitors will be favorites to secure another victory on the road.
Inter Miami faces several injury concerns ahead of their upcoming match. Corentin Jean, Franco Negri, and Ian Fray are all sidelined with ACL injuries, while Benjamin Cremaschi is out for 2-3 months due to a hernia suffered in January. Additionally, Facundo Farias is ruled out for the season with a torn ACL.
Despite these setbacks, key players like Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez are fit to start. However, Busquets is still recovering from a slight ankle injury sustained a few weeks ago.
In goal, Drake Callender retains his position as Miami's starting goalkeeper, supported by a defensive line comprising DeAndre Yedlin, Tomas Aviles, Serhiy Kryvtsov, and Jordi Alba. Nicolas Freire, on loan from Liga MX side Pumas, is still building up fitness and may not feature in the upcoming games.
In midfield, David Ruiz will earn his first start of the season alongside Sergio Busquets and Julian Gressel. Up front, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, despite not scoring in the previous match, will lead the attack with their influential presence. Robert Taylor, who scored in the opening match, is likely to retain his place on the left wing.
Despite the injury setbacks, Inter Miami still possesses a formidable lineup capable of making an impact in the upcoming fixture.
