After a month-long hiatus, Mumbai City is gearing up for action in the Indian Super League! The team is set to make a triumphant return to the Mumbai Football Arena after a 39-day break, with Petr Kratky leading his side in their ISL title defense against Jamshedpur FC on Sunday, February 4, with the kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM IST.

Closing out 2023 with a resounding 3-0 victory against Chennaiyin FC, Mumbai City faced the 2024 Kalinga Super Cup in Bhubaneswar with a somewhat depleted squad. Despite a flawless group stage, securing three wins in three matches, the Islanders suffered an unexpected exit in the semifinals against hosts Odisha FC, losing 1-0 to the Kalinga Warriors. Currently holding the fourth position in the points table, Mumbai City remains unbeaten at home this season and aims to kick off the second half of the league stage with a positive result against a resurgent Jamshedpur FC, led by head coach Khalid Jamil.

Following the departure of former coach Scott Cooper, the experienced Indian coach Khalid Jamil took charge at Jamshedpur FC, and the Red Miners have seen a turnaround in their fortunes under his guidance. Like Mumbai City, Jamshedpur had a successful Kalinga Super Cup group stage but faced defeat against eventual champions East Bengal FC in the semifinals. Jamil's team started their ISL resumption with a 1-1 draw against NorthEast United and enters the upcoming fixture with 10 points in 13 games, currently sitting in 11th place.

Petr Kratky, expressing optimism in a pre-match press conference, emphasized the importance of a strong start in the league's second stage, stating, "Every game is important for us. We want to start on a good note, win, and get the three points. I believe this group has the strengths and qualities to win every game." When discussing Jamshedpur FC, a team Mumbai City has not faced this season, Kratky acknowledged the opponent's quality but urged his team to focus on themselves.

Accompanying Kratky in the press conference, Dutch midfielder Yoëll van Nieff echoed the coach's sentiments, highlighting the preparations and anticipating a challenging game. Van Nieff stated, "Jamshedpur is a good team. We are well-prepared, and it's going to be a hard game. It feels good to start the league again, and hopefully, we can maintain our rhythm and secure three points in front of our home crowd."

With recent squad reinforcements, including the arrival of Iker Guarrotxena and the expected addition of Thaer Krouma, Kratky expressed excitement about their contributions. "Iker has arrived in Mumbai. We are excited to have him available to us. We still need to go through training to see how he can help us in the game, but he is a very good addition to the team," Kratky stated, providing an update on the Spaniard's availability.
